Our first meeting at Border's on Sunday was fabulous-o!! Kathy brougt in the most beautiful shawl, completed in this yummy, yummy, red color! It was great. Although I didn't manage to snap a picture of her completed shawl, I did take a second this a.m. to grab my camera and take a picture of the one that I am working on.....don't mind the ends that need to be woven in. I can't believe how pretty the colors are......it's going to be hard to give this one up!

Our next meeting will be 3/11~10am~Borders

OK, our first post. If you've landed here, it's probably because of the shameless email that I sent to everyone I knew, and asked them to send it to everyone they knew, and so on. Anyway, long story short, my friend Kathy and I are knitters, as are many of our other friends; I am also involved with Sexual Assault Response Services of Southern Maine (SARSSM). One day, while we were chatting, Kathy and I agreed that we would like to start a knitting group - one with a purpose. So, we stole the idea (again, shamelessly) from other knitting groups and decided to get a mission - we chose SARSSM. We need knitters to make comfort shawls - the idea being to give them to the survivors of sexual assault.

For those of you who don't know what SARSSM is, it is a support service for victims of sexual assault, their families, friends, and professional caregivers; you can find them here. In fact, if you're in the area, you should pick up the latest copy of the Portland Phoenix - a two-time survivor has shared her story - it's an amazing, but heartbreaking article, written by the survivor herself. I don't think you can read it without wanting to do something. If you're not in the area, check it out anyway.

Our first meeting will be at Borders in South Portland on Sunday, February 11 from 10-12; stay for part, stay for the whole thing. Bring your sticks (I recommend size 10 or 11) and a skein (or 3) of Lion Brand Homespun in a color of your choice. The pattern is simple; cast on 57, K3, P3 all the way across. Turn, repeat. 3 skeins later, you're done. Kathy & I'll be drinking latte's and knitting up a storm - and I'm sure chatting like crazy....just show up, or email me for more info. If you are one of our far away friends, you can be involved too! We'll just have to illicit the help of the postal service!!
